Sophie Hinger

Short Bio

I am a Postdoctoral researcher at the Osnabrück Institute of Geography (Social Geography) and member of the IMIS since April 2018.

I completed my dissertation entitled "The Politics of Presence in Asylum: Negotiating the Inclusion:exclusion of refugees" at the University of Osnabrück in September 2021. In my PhD project I studied local responses to and consequences of asylum migration. I studied in particular urban negotiations over the reception and accommodation of refugees, deportations, and integration politics.

2019-21 I acted as the general ccordinator of the EUMIGS Double Degree program and network and 2020-21 I (co-)directed the DAAD-IVAC project to develop and implement international digital learning formats.

In 2015-16 I worked as a Marie-Curie Early Stage Research Fellow at the University of Sussex in the UK.

I studied the Erasmus Mundus Master in "International Migration and Social Cohesion" (MISOCO) at the University of Amsterdam, the University of Deusto in Bilbao and the IMIS (2011-2013) and hold a BA in Liberal Arts und Sciences from the University College Maastricht (2007-2010).

Ich am a member of the Network for critical migration and border regime research, the INTEGRIM Lab and the working group Geographical migration research.

Ich bin wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin (Postdoc) am Osnabrücker Institut für Geographie und seit 2018 IMIS-Mitglied.

Im September 2021 habe ich meine Promotion mit dem Titel "The Politics of Presence in Asylum: Negotiating the Inclusion:exclusion of refugees" an der Universität Osnabrük (Geographie) abgeschlossen. In meiner Promotion untersuchte ich lokale Reaktionen auf und Konsequenzen von Asylmigration. Ich erforschte städtische Aushandlungsprozesse insbesondere mit Blick auf die Aufnahme und Unterbringung von Geflüchteten, Abschiebungen, sowie Integrationspolitiken und - diskurse.

2019-21 habe ich das EuMIGS Double-Degree-Program koordiniert (www.eumigs.eu) und 2020-2021 das DAAD-IVAC Projekt  zur Entwicklung und Implementierung von internationalen digitalen Lehrformaten geleitet.

2015-16 war ich als Marie-Curie INTEGRIM Research Fellow an der University of Sussex in England.
